What’s It Like in The Congo?

BrianGoma 2018

On this trip I fly in to Kigali, Rwanda and spend one night there. The next day we leave for GOMA in the DRC (Democratic Republic of the Congo) – it’s about 100 miles to get there but take 4-5 hours. The city of Goma is at an elevation of just over 5,000 feet and the weather is going to be around 75 degrees in the daytime and 55 or so at night. Goma is the 6th largest city in the DRC and has a million people and is most famous for the 2002 eruption of Mt Nyrigongo which had lava flows through the heart of the city . The largest city and capital is Kinshasa with 11,116,000 people.

The area I am going is only a couple miles from the Rwanda border and is considered the safest area of the DRC. I will be with people I know well and trust. Amy Scarth who founded and operated Big Beyond in Uganda and Ethiopia will be there with me the whole time so I feel very confident in my security there. Thanks everyone for the support!
