Kilimanjaro

2023

I am getting ready for an adventure that I am so excited about!! On July 14th, I'll be starting my journey from Dallas to Tanzania, all set to conquer the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro.

And guess what? I am so excited! Wait I said that already  I have trained and trained and trained, other than the set back with the triple hernia surgery 5 weeks ago, I got back to walking the day after my surgery and increased every day since then!

I am able to do full training again with hiking & climbing stairs with 30 pounds on my back, running 3 times a week, walking (again with backpack) and doing sprints on my bike to develop better lung capacity. And I really think I am ready!

Before I start the schedule I will spend a couple days on a very low key 2-Day Safari to Tarangire Park and Ngorongoro Crater. Visiting Tarangire and seeing the African top 5.

The two national parks are gifted by nature each having over 2,000 animals. Tarangire is famous for its largest herds of Elephant not only in Tanzania but Africa at as a whole.

When I started thinking about this trip I carefully studied the routes, and I've chosen the most challenging, yet incredibly rewarding path: the Long version of the Lemosho route! While most people opt for the easier Marangu or Rongai routes, but even though easiest they have the lowest success rate of 65%-70%.

I wanted to immerse myself in the most scenic parts of Kilimanjaro and the Long Lemosho route does just that. Its rated 5 out of 5 (yes, it really is lol) for landscape and scenery, the Lemosho route offers breathtaking views and fewer crowds.

It is the longest traditional route (there is a new one this year that circumnavigates around the entire mountain that’s longer), my route spans 48 miles, but due to the extra time to acclimatize, it has a success rate of over 90%, making it an adventure I couldn't resist!

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro via the Lemosho route is an exhilarating experience like no other. It's a little-used approach route, allowing us to enjoy the unspoiled wilderness and the awe-inspiring scenery of the Shira Plateau before converging with other routes in the later stages of our trip.

The 10-day itinerary ensures better acclimatization, increasing our chances of reaching the summit successfully.
