The seedling project in the forest was THE HARDEST THING IVE EVER DONE!
So you literally go as a group with a man with a rifle to protect you from all sorts of beasts and the only thing is, the rare species of trees that we want to protect and gather seedlings of ARE AT THE TOP OF THE FREAKING MOUNTAIN!! The area in the fringe of Bwindi impenetrable forest has already had the trees taken so we had to go deep into the forest on foot with a man cutting the way with a machete. Straight up a mountain that is so high in elevation it makes it really hard. And I couldn’t say “leave me here and get me on the way back through” because only one guy has a rifle so we all had to stay together.
Saving the environment is hard work!! LOL,.. 5 hours of grueling climbing. I wanted to take a nap when we were back to the hub. But then they take all of the seedlings and put them in little grow bags to let them mature – but I didn’t do that part I headed back to work on a PowerPoint in town on the Seed bank fundamentals. I can share that later if you are interested.
Tomorrow is a new day. I’m going to sleep well tonight!
Thanks, B
